We are now dedicating our week of shows and our newsletter to a different legend every single week! Kitty Von Quim is so thrilled to be continuing writing for us so enjoy your first one. One of our personal favorites:
BLAZE STARR
Born January 1
We start 2013 with one of the brightest flames of 1950s burlesque Blaze Starr. Before she appeared on hoochie coochie stages up and down the East Coast, Starr took a Greyhound out of her hometown in West Virginia and ended up discovered in a doughnut shop in Washington, DC. After Starr’s first striptease this redhead with the 38DD bra admitted to throwing up backstage, not because she found stripping repulsive, but because she was overcome with emotion at entering show business. This comedic burlesque dame became a household name for stealing a Louisiana governor’s heart and being the reason his wife sent him briefly to a mental institution. Starr performed through the 1970s before retiring to her home state in the mid-80s.
