Legend: Tempest Storm
Your legend this week is
TEMPEST STORM
After four years of performing dynamite burlesque performer Tempest Storm is rumored to already have insured her bosom for $1 million dollars with Lloyds of London. This raucous redhead known as “The Girl with the Fabulous Front” began her rise to burlesque stardom at a club in Oakland, California. While her first stage name was Sunny Day as a chorus girl in L.A., her stunning figure quickly moved her to marquees as Tempest Storm. Once she could call Elvis her lover, Tempest Storm was married in the late ’50s to the famous singing cowboy Herb Jeffries, when interracial marriages were still considered taboo. Last year this legend celebrated her 21st birthday (she was born Feb. 29, 1928). Though she retired in 1995 at the age of 67, she still performs occasionally, including in 1999 for the 30th anniversary of the O’Farrell Theatre in San Francisco.
