Coco Lectric: National Treasure of Red Hots Burlesque

COCO LECTRIC

TEXAS

Often the performer’s choice because of her sugar-sweet and humble personality, and the audience’s choice because of her dynamite figure and electric movement, Jigglewatts Burlesque co-founder Coco Lectric is Red Hots Burlesque’s top import from Texas. When asked how she was a woman behaving badly, Coco simply responded, “I don’t really think that I ever ‘behave badly’ but I think that some of the folks in charge in the state of Texas would disagree with you.” Voted the Queen of Burlesque 2010 at the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, Coco is a classically trained dancer and actor, which is evident in her quality of movement and improvisation in her performances. “Once I work on a piece hard enough to bring it to the stage, I allow myself to change my choreography based on my audience’s reactions and the feeling in the room during the number,” Coco Lectric told Red Hots Burlesque. “I love connecting with my audience more than doing movements consistently or having a super expensive costume.” Coco Lectric throws herself fully into each performance, expressing herself through dance and burlesque. “I’ve heard that people are surprised by my dance ability and my size,” she said. “I suppose folks are used to seeing very tiny people do very physically demanding dance performances. Dance is a way that I love to express myself and I work very hard at it.”

WHAT TO SEE IN TEXAS: “I would recommend that they see our Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue show on Friday… yes… we perform EVERY FRIDAY. Texas is a big place, but I recommend Austin, of course. There are so many things to do outdoors and our night life is fun. As far as food is concerned, I would recommend Quality Seafood on Airport Blvd. I love fresh seafood and they’ve got it! I like Maudie’s for Mexican Food, and if you’d like to pay a little extra, go to Parkside on 6th St. for Oysters and appetizers. For late night cuisine, I would go to Mission Dogs for Bacon Wrapped or Vegan hotdogs on 6th and Onion on the weekends. I’m a sucker for Asian fusion food and when it’s put on top of a hot dog, magic happens. It’s a Jigglewatt favorite.”
