Hailing from one of the coldest and definitely the drunkest cities in America, the glamorous and self-described unusual beauty Anytime Jones is one of the pioneering burlesque dancers in the state of North Dakota. “I’ve always sought to challenge and connect with my audience here in North Dakota who are a stoic, yet mirthful people of predominant Norwegian heritage,” Jones tells Red Hots Burlesque. “Although my audience is not particularly cultured or sexually open, so my path to helping this reserved yet very curious populace understand and EMBRACE burlesque has been a marvel.” According to Jones, she went from being the only burlesque performer in North Dakota to co-founding the state’s only burlesque troupe Bad Weather Burlesque, a gang of neo-burlesque performers, cabaret singers, and fire performers, with a solid base in the classic art form. “My burlesque is not informed by a community of versed performers/veterans… so it is interesting to perform other cities and see ethics, standards and politics vary so greatly within a citywide burlesque community,” says Jones. “I am kind of in my own burlesque bubble here and it feels kinda lonely sometimes.” Also an activist, currently Jones is fighting to prevent a city from proposing a mandate for all strippers, including burlesque performers, from submitting to fingerprints, screenings and paying an annual $250 fee to perform in an effort to curb prostitution.

WHAT TO SEE IN NORTH DAKOTA: “Ho man. Gotta hit up the fabulously Art deco Fargo Theater. Get on the Enchanted Highway. Eat and stay at the Hotel Donaldson at all costs. THRIFT. STORES. Get your drink on. You’ll be in one of the drunkest and coldest states in the contiguous United States. Somehow, you won’t notice that though. It’s different, dude.”
